THE CHEFS AND OWNERS
Mitsuko, the daughter of a Japanese fisherman and a sushi chef, has not stopped her progression since arriving in the United States. One of the creme de la creme' of the Crescent City's Japanese chefs, Mitsuko is shining on Freret St. at the beginning of its 21st century resurrection. Mitsuko has developed the insight to conceive the concept of fresh and eclectic blends of Japanese and southern cuisine.
Born in Vietnam, Chef Vu has been a sushi chef for twenty years. At the age of five, he moved to Japan, where he learned his trade, before moving to the United States. A student of his craft, he is intense and dedicated to producing beautiful sushi dishes, all of which are more pleasing to the taste than even their splendid visual displays.
Since opening in 2011, our restaurant has been instrumental in introducing a true Japanese dining experience to the New Orleans area, and has been recognized as one of the best restaurants in the Crescent City. We receive fresh seafood daily; whether from the local catch, or hand picked at the local markets. Our kitchen is a laboratory for innovation, and we thrive on creating new ways to present the finest ingredients each season has to offer.
We are inviting you to enjoy our vibrant fusion of traditional Japanese and southern cuisine. We have outstanding chefs, great people on the floor and in the kitchen, and a wine and sake selection unparalleled in New Orleans. We believe that these are the ingredients that make Origami one of the best restaurants in the New Orleans area. We are passionate about what we do, and take a special delight in introducing our guests to new wines and unbeatable cuisine.
Combining local and seasonal ingredients with an infinite spectrum of fresh seafood is the basis for our culinary philosophy. We invite our diners to explore their palate's boundaries by pairing traditional Japanese cuisine with new, refreshing flavors, textures and a dash of southern style.
We use sustainable and responsibly fished seafood whenever possible, and work with suppliers on sourcing the fish products. Our goal at Origami is to maintain: quality, creativity, and freshness!
